Alma Real Drive
Perched on the Huntington Palisades bluffs with sweeping ocean vistas and glorious sunset views, this Pacific Palisades estate called for a reimagining as deliberate as it was restrained. Drawing inspiration from the 16th-century bastide of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Bureau Namas sought to create a home that felt less designed than discovered — as if it had always belonged to the landscape of Southern Provence rather than the California coast.
Materiality was held to a careful minimum. Warm render, limestone detailing, terracotta tile, and the softest blue-grey shutters were chosen not for effect, but for authenticity — each element traceable to the regional vernacular of Provence. The symmetrical facade, arched ground-floor openings, columned entry portico, and wrought-iron balconettes speak to a classical order that is quietly confident rather than overtly grand.
The site's position atop the bluffs, overlooking both ocean and canyon hiking grounds, informed every decision. Rather than compete with the views, the architecture defers to them — the gravel forecourt, central fountain, and clipped hedgerow parterre composing a foreground that frames nature rather than distracts from it.
A labor of love in the truest sense, the project reveals its care in the smallest details: the proportions of a shutter, the curve of a fountain basin, the cadence of a cornice. The result is a home of extraordinary period charm — one that embraces the California coastal lifestyle without ever abandoning the spirit of the south of France.
